On Sunday, October 4, Film Music Prague presented Music of Hollywood: Jerry Goldsmith & Basil Poledouris in Dvořák Hall at Prague's Rudolfinum. The Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra and choir performed under conductor Chuhei Iwasaki.

The festival's official recap confirms a program reaching across the breadth of the catalog: the industrial resolve of RoboCop, the martial sweep of Starship Troopers, the monumental architecture of Conan the Barbarian, and the choral identity of The Hunt for Red October.

A program this varied is a useful reminder that the scale of Poledouris' music was never only about volume. His strongest scores build distinct worlds through rhythm, color, and melody.

A full symphonic return

The organizer described a successful evening shaped by the audience's response and the rare opportunity to hear this music performed by a full symphony orchestra, joined by choir for several selections. For work created to transform images on a screen, the concert offered a different kind of afterlife: music allowed to stand on its own architecture, color, and momentum.

Film Music Prague has published a photo gallery of the performance by photographer Pavel Král. The official festival pages remain the best place to see that record of the evening.
