Lonesome Dove

Directed by Simon Wincer

The Emmy Award-winning score for this beloved four-part CBS miniseries adaptation of Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones. The gently rolling title theme — spare, melancholy, and instantly evocative of the open American plains — is one of the most recognised and beloved pieces of music ever written for American television. Poledouris won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for his work on this project. The score exemplifies his gift for large-scale emotional writing that never feels overblown.
