Starship Troopers
Directed by Paul Verhoeven
Poledouris's most complex and ambitious score — written over nine months for a 96-piece orchestra, an extraordinary luxury in an industry where composers typically receive three to five weeks. The final Poledouris–Verhoeven collaboration showcased his full range: military marches of genuine grandeur, lyrical romantic passages, chilling atmospheric writing, and overwhelming spectacle. The score has grown in stature alongside the film's own critical reassessment as a satirical masterpiece. Verhoeven's unusual care with the music, giving Poledouris unprecedented time to develop his themes, produced a genuinely rare film score.
