Starship Troopers Makes Its Vinyl Debut

The extended two-LP edition gives 29 cues room to march, surge, and expose the uneasy line between spectacle and satire.

Varèse Sarabande announced the first vinyl release of Starship Troopers as a two-LP extended edition. Issued on August 4, 2023, the set presents 29 cues, new artwork, and liner notes by director Paul Verhoeven and Zoë Poledouris.

The score's huge brass lines, churning strings, and massed percussion can sound wholly sincere, even as the film turns the imagery of military triumph toward satire. That productive tension is one reason the music continues to invite close listening beyond the screen.

Few scores can propel a spectacle so completely while also helping the audience feel the troubling seduction of that spectacle.

A family perspective in the package

Zoë Poledouris' participation gives the edition a personal connection to the composer alongside Verhoeven's account of the film. Those voices make the release more than a new physical format. They add context from the creative partnership and the family.

The label's announcement documents the formats, program, and contributors.
